About.

Evelyn Loss moved to San Diego from Baltimore. As she settled into California, she discovered an interest in working with glass to create artworks and functional wears. The magical interaction of glass and light inspired her to develop a studio practice at The Studio Door, an art gallery surrounded by artists studios in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego. Her fused glass artistry is currently available in The Studio Door’s gallery and online art shop.

What is Fused Glass.

Glass fusing is the joining together of pieces of glass at a high temperature, usually in a kiln. Craftsmen use the technique to create glass jewelry, beads and tiles as well as larger platters, bowls and vases. Visual artists also push the creative possibilities to create glass sculptures and objects

While the precise origins of glass fusing techniques are not known with certainty, there is archeological evidence that the Egyptians were familiar with techniques ca. 2000 BCE. Fusing became popular in modern times, particularly in the U.S. during the 1960s. Modern glass fusing is a widespread hobby but the technique is also gaining popularity in the world of fine art.
